General Studies

The curriculum framework for General Studies comprises three interconnected components: subject knowledge, common skills, and positive values and attitudes. When designing our school-based General Studies curriculum, we tailor the learning focus according to students' needs, interests, and abilities, ensuring alignment with their overall development. To enhance students' self-directed learning, we incorporate various learning elements across grade levels, including STEAM and scientific inquiry, outdoor learning, life skills education, thematic learning, and life education. This approach promotes effective learning and empowers students to take ownership of their educational journey.

Overview of General Studies Activities

STEAM and Scientific Inquiry

In lower grades, students explore scientific principles through inquiry-based methods that cultivate analytical skills and foster scientific thinking.

In higher grades, the focus shifts to Chinese inventions, where students learn about ancient innovations while developing STEAM skills, deepening their connection to their heritage.

Outdoor Learning

Each year, General Studies includes outdoor learning activities, such as field trips or visits, allowing students to step outside the classroom. These experiences enrich their learning by connecting knowledge with emotions, fostering a deeper and broader understanding of the subjects studied.

Life Skills Education

The General Studies curriculum for Primary 1 and 2 includes a series of life skills lessons covering topics such as packing a school bag, handwashing, brushing teeth, folding clothes, hanging garments, sweeping, tying shoelaces, and cutting nails. Through hands-on learning, students acquire essential self-care skills and learn to care for themselves and others. We encourage students to engage in practical activities to enrich their learning experiences.

Thematic Learning

Thematic learning activities are implemented across different grades, with topics including Respect and Empathy in Primary 1, Wonderful Seeds in Primary 2, A Trip to Tung Chung in Primary 3, Hong Kong: Then and Now in Primary 4, Wealth and Poverty in Primary 5, and Integrity and Lawfulness in Primary 6. These activities, combined with self-directed learning elements, facilitate more effective classroom learning.

Compassionate Children Program (2022-2023)

Compassionate Children Program aims to cultivate curiosity about nature and appreciation for life among early primary students. Through the introduction of themes like "Nature Companions" and "Good Neighbors in Nature" in Primary 1 and 2, students engage in various activities that enhance their understanding of the natural world and deepen their appreciation for its beauty.
