The curriculum framework of the General Studies subject is composed of three interconnected components, namely subject knowledge, generic skills, and positive values and attitudes. When formulating the school-based General Studies curriculum, we adjust the learning focuses according to students’ needs, interests and abilities, in line with their overall development.
To enhance students’ self-directed learning ability, we incorporate different learning elements at each level, including STEAM and scientific inquiry, outdoor learning, life skills lessons, thematic learning and life education. These elements make learning more effective and enable students to become masters of their own learning.
Overview of General Studies Activities
|
STEAM and Scientific Inquiry For lower primary levels, scientific inquiry methods are employed in conjunction with the curriculum content to explore various scientific principles, cultivate students’ analytical skills and develop their scientific mindset. For upper primary levels, the curriculum centres on Chinese inventions. Students learn about ancient inventions and acquire STEAM skills. In addition to understanding the inventions, students also develop a sense of affection and pride towards their motherland. |

Outdoor Learning Every year, the General Studies subject organises outdoor learning activities. Through field trips or visits, students are able to leave the school campus to learn, enriching their learning experiences. This helps them connect the knowledge they have acquired with their emotions, enabling them to learn more deeply and broadly. |

Life Skills Education Our school has incorporated a series of life skills lessons into the General Studies curriculum for Primary 1 and Primary 2. The learning content includes: packing school bags, washing hands, brushing teeth, folding clothes, hanging clothes, sweeping the floor, tying shoelaces, cutting fingernails, and so on. Through these hands-on learning activities, students master basic self-care skills in daily life, learn to take care of themselves and help others. We also encourage students to put what they have learned into practice, thereby enriching their learning experiences. |
|
Thematic Learning Thematic learning activities are implemented at different year levels, including “The Wonderful Seeds” for Primary 2, and “Poverty and Wealth” and “Integrity and Law-abiding” for Primary 6. Through thematic learning activities and the incorporation of self-directed learning elements, more effective learning takes place in the classroom. |

Life Education Compassionate Children Program (2024-2025) Compassionate Children Program (2023-2024) Compassionate Children Program (2022-2023) To cultivate lower primary students’ curiosity about and care for nature, guide them to reflect on their responsibilities in the natural world, and enhance their gratitude for life, we have introduced the “Compassion-based Life Education Programme” into the General Studies lessons for Primary 1 and Primary 2. The themes are “Little Partners of Nature” and “Good Neighbours of Nature”. Through various activities, students not only gain a better understanding of nature, but also develop a deeper appreciation of its beauty. Last year, the programme was extended to upper primary levels with the theme “Food and Agriculture”. Through planting and direct contact with living organisms, students develop curiosity about the natural environment and an understanding of symbiotic relationships. During the exploration of the food production process and the roles played by different forms of life, students are encouraged to evaluate different values in context. On the other hand, by appreciating the visual elements of food and living organisms, students can understand the characteristics of organisms and the richness of food colours from an emotional perspective. Through diversified activities and outdoor learning, students develop compassion towards living organisms and affirm the value of the existence of different forms of life. |
