Our school’s Putonghua department enhances students' listening, speaking, reading, and pinyin skills through various strategies and diverse learning activities. We aim to cultivate students' interest in learning Putonghua and promote a spirit of autonomous learning, aligning with the objectives of our curriculum.
In Putonghua classes, teachers provide a variety of learning activities, including pre-class preparation to help students acquire relevant language knowledge. Students utilize "Pre-Class Activities" in their self-study manuals to gain an initial understanding of the topics. They also use electronic software and QR codes to listen to and practice the pronunciation of phonetics or vocabulary, which reinforces their phonetic knowledge and supports their language learning while enhancing their ability to learn independently.
Beyond classroom learning, our Putonghua department actively promotes various activities to foster students' interest in learning Putonghua. These activities include reciting classical poetry, singing children's songs, pinyin competitions, and sharing illustrated storybooks and idiomatic tales.
Furthermore, to further promote Putonghua activities and create a language-rich environment, our school has established an online platform called "Putonghua Learning Space" tailored for each grade level. This platform shares Putonghua storybook recordings made by teachers, collaborative idiomatic story sharing, "Cantonese-Putonghua translation," and recommendations for Putonghua songs or nursery rhymes. Additionally, we train Putonghua ambassadors after school to actively promote Putonghua activities and lead them in participating in external competitions, including recitation contests, radio drama competitions, idiomatic speech contests, and storytelling competitions.
Whether in the classroom or after school, we hope students will enjoy learning Putonghua in a relaxed and engaging environment.
